Spinning Eggs - Easter 2016 Part 2

Thursday, March 24, 2016

While at Target the other night, I realized that despite buying "fake" eggs weeks ago for the girls to decorate, not only had we not decorated any, but I hadn't even purchased an egg dying kit...

...thankfully, I was in the Easter section when I realized this and they still had way.too.many.options.to.choose.from.

After much deliberations (seriously, with very independent 1 and 4 year olds this was not an easy decision.  I don't know about you, but I really don't want my house permanently dyed or colored with glitter), I settled on this:

My thoughts were that maybe the spinning contraption would contain/minimize any spills.  And as much as this family loves their glitter, who really needs it, right??

And even without the glitter it was definitely a hit with the girls.

However, I am not entirely sure it was mess free.  Littlest  Miss did manage to shoot the entire yellow packet all over the table.  Completely missing the targeted egg in the spinner.  Thankfully, the entire squirt landed only on the newspaper that I had put down just in case.  Needless to say, there is very little yellow on our eggs this year.

In addition to the fake eggs, I did feel a bit odd not coloring real eggs.  So while the girls were in the tub, I boiled up a batch of eggs.  There may have been a casualty or two as this non-egg eater did not realize that if you just put the egg into the water you will either burn our hand or the egg will crash to the bottom of the pot.  Oops...nine real eggs was plenty for us.

And having already tried my luck with actual dying of eggs, I thought I'd try out one of my recent Pinterest posts:

Create colorful EASTER EGGS using Melted Crayons. It's easy to do + KIDS will LOVE it. Read the tutorial now or Pin for Later!

Let me tell you, this was a hit.  I think Little Miss could have done this for hours.  Littlest Miss enjoyed scribbling as well just not to the same degree.  Not only was this fun for the girls, but it really was virtually mess free.  The only true drawback was that the eggs stayed hot for a long time.  It really was necessary to color them in the container because even 15 minutes into it they were too hot for me to hold.  Littlest Miss consistently reminded of us this by saying "hot."  Granted, at this moment of time, many things -- even cold water and last nights CFA ice cream -- are "hot" so take her warning on your own judgment.

Side note, yes, we colored all of our eggs naked.  I really liked their outfits and was too lazy to find messy clothes.
