Easter Shenanigans 2016 - Part I

Wednesday, March 23, 2016

We officially kicked off the Easter festivities last Saturday by attending the Southlake Egg Hunt with some neighbors...it couldn't have been a better day except for the temperature!  Yes it was sunny, but man was it cold.  As in just above freezing when we ventured out.  As Texans in March this did not bold well...as I'd already packed up what warm clothes we have!  Thankfully, the husband had yet to put the boxes in the attic so we were able to snag some warm(er) clothes!

Littlest Miss definitely had a blast at her first egg hunt that she could navigate herself.  At first I was concerned that she wouldn't get the concept, but fear not.  This girl knew exactly what to do.  Instinct, y'all!  So much so that in the ten minutes while we waited for the green light we had to hold her because all she wanted to do was grab those eggs!

It was a big field...with lots of littles!

But once given the green light, it was pretty clear that you didn't want to mess with Littlest Miss.  She ran straight for the eggs and stuffed them in her little bag (because of course we forgot her fancy basket at home -- although this may have been a blessing in disguise as the basket was so big even Little Miss had trouble carrying it and trying to get eggs.

And for not yet being two, I'd say she did pretty good.

There's candy in these...yum!

I think the funniest part of the morning was the declaration that egg hunts in general are similar to the Hunger Games.  At first we all got a good laugh at this just before the 3 &4 year old hunt...and it definitely seemed to hold true as Little Miss fell immediately out of the gate and didn't come away with that many eggs.

But still proud of her loot

However, the Hunger Games analogy really played out at the 5 & 6 year old hunt -- the moms held the older kids hands, explained the plan to head to the middle, lined up track style and awaited "Go!"

This time, the kids made out like bandits and got a ton of eggs -- and somewhat peacefully, at least for the first 20 seconds.  And then you just sensed it...the surge...and within seconds there was a wall of kids storming at us in search of the remaining eggs.

Needless to say this method worked out much better...check out the egg count this time!

All in all, it was a great morning, a great day with new friends, and a great way to kick off Easter 2016, which much to the husbands dismay includes at least two more Easter egg hunts!
