Littlest Miss - 1 Month

Eeks, somehow Littlest Miss is already a month old.

How on earth did that happen?  Regardless, its been a great month (although busy month).  We are slowing figuring out our new normal as a family of four and are trying to soak in all of the time that we can with our little girls, because goodness knows that they don't stay little for that long...

Age: 1 month
Height: 21.25 inches (55%)
Weight: 8 pounds 4 ounces (28%)
Head: 37.5 cm (59%)

Milestones: We survived the first month...with lots of smiles from everyone!  Claire's "big" milestones include making it through the entire month without a bottle, gaining weight, gaining more control of her head, smiling in her sleep and starting to smile at familiar faces, and grasping on to things.

Sleep: She sleeps like a champ (did I just write that?!?!? I can only hope that I don't jinx myself).  Most nights we get a solid 4 to 6 hour stretch of sleep and she immediately goes back to sleep for another 3 hours or so.  She also naps through out the day for about an hour to an hour and a half at a time.  Assuming that this keeps up, she'll be sleeping through the night at no time...no if only we could say that about the toddler (hello, regression!)

Best Moment: I can't pick just one.  Smiles, snuggles, sleepless/tired nights.  All of them are a "best" moment in their own special way.  But if I had to, it may have been the morning when I was making breakfast and Littlest Miss was crying.  Little Miss ran in to tend to her and suddenly the entire house was quiet.  I was a bit scared at first, but Little Miss had given her a paci AND wrapped her up in a blanket -- without covering her arms or her face.  Success.  In general, the best moments from the past month, and I am guess from all future months, will be watching the two of them become best friends.

Worst Moment: Honestly, I don't know that there have been any. Okay, I lie.  It was the other night when both girls were crying hysterically at the exact same time.  Talk about shit show.  But guess what, we all survived.

Health:  Littlest Miss is as healthy as can be.  The doc gave her a thumbs up on weight gain, growth and strength.  We did have a slight scare during week one when her first newborn screening came back with her thyroid being slightly abnormal.  However, the second screening test came back 100% normal.  Relief.  Thank goodness for healthy baby girls!

Eating: Rockstar.  One month down of being exclusively breast fed and one month down of no bottles (although that's about to change soon!)

Granted, we do still need the nipple shield (more because of mommy not because of Littlest Miss), but other than that, it's going great.  We can eat virtually anywhere and do...in the car, under a tree in the daycare parking lot?  check.  We also found out this month how mommy/baby friendly Nordstrom is.  Mommy forsees more shopping trips in our near future.  Sorry, daddy!

But for real, eating is going well.  We eat every 2.5 to 3.5 hours during the day for about 10 - 20 minutes and get in a similar snack when we wake up in the middle of the night!

Things I want to remember: Um, everything!  It still amazes me how fast time goes and how quickly memories fade.  But here are a few of my favorite pics and memories from the past month...

  1. She's just so cute!! So glad everything is going well - and it sounds like Holden and I need to add some Nordstrom shopping to our rotation of outings. :)
