Baby 2.0 - 20 Weeks

Thursday, February 6, 2014

Well, we've officially made it to the half way mark.  Let me just say, WHOA.  time is flying.  At this rate, we'll be meeting this sweet little baby in NO time!

Size of BabyYour baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. He's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — about the size of a banana. (For the first 20 weeks, when a baby's legs are curled up against his torso and hard to measure, measurements are taken from the top of his head to his bottom — the "crown to rump" measurement. After 20 weeks, he's measured from head to toe.)

He's swallowing more these days, which is good practice for his digestive system. He's also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in his bowels, and you'll see it in his first soiled diaper (some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery).

Total Weight Gain/Loss: Since my first appointment at 8 weeks, I've gained a whooping 0.8 pounds.

Maternity Clothes: No change from last week.  A combo of maternity pants or belly bands on normal pants.  All normal shirts and dresses.

Gender: Still no clue...

Movement: Lots of squirming.  Except at today's ultrasound.  Baby was apparently nestled up to my aortic vein and was literally being rocked to sleep.  Even the sonogram tech got a chuckle out of it.

Food Cravings:  None really.  Although the jar of M&Ms that I got to help bribe R to go potty is mysteriously gone.

What I miss: Not much really.  But if anything, wine.

Sleep:  No issues falling asleep.  Occasionally, wake up in the middle of the night, but can generally go back to sleep.  Cannot get up in the AM for the life of me.

Symptoms: Just the bump, which in tighter fitting clothes actually looks like a bump.  Although apparently I can hide it well, because several of my co-workers were completely surprised when I told them today that I was not only pregnant, but half way done!

Best Moment this week:  Getting to see the bean at today's ultrasound.  Even if we only got to "see" half of it as we were instructed to close our eyes.

What I am looking forward to: Easy.  Saturday at 5 PM.  Our gender reveal photography session cannot come fast enough.
