A roof over our head

Tuesday, February 18, 2014

As I mentioned last week, we received an email from the builder that they were hopeful to have the roof up either by the end of last week or early this week.  Well, they delivered!  We pulled up Sunday to see not only a roof, but some windows as well.

Needless to say, we continue to be pleasantly surprised with the progress.  I remain hopeful that we'll be in before May 31st (the tentative deadline that we gave the builder if they want to close prior to Littlest Miss's arrival).  The husband seems to think we'll be in well before that.  Well, until I figured out that the above deadline will be here in a mere 14 weeks.  Back to being hopeful about being in before May 31st.

The big concern regarding that time frame right now is the hidden unknown delays.  Of which, we may have discovered two this weekend.  First, one of our big requests/requirements in our new house was to have a pot filler above the stove again.  We loved, loved, loved having it in our old house and was easily one of the must haves in our new house.  However, while we were walking through this weekend, it does not appear as though there is any plumbing along the wall were the pot filler and stove will be.

Maybe the builders have a way of doing all of that after the fact, but we are afraid that they completely spaced.  Which means that to get it installed, they will have to break up at least part of the foundation and outside wall.  Ugh.  To me, it seems like A LOT of work, but hopefully, its not that big of a deal.

The second concern at this time is the garage height.  During our pre-construction meeting, the Husband specifically requested that the garage doors be at least a certain height so that he would be able to fit his truck in the garage.  Granted, we did not have a tape measure with us, but the garage doors seemed low.  Thus, we just asked about this . Hopefully, the doors meet our minimum height request and there is no additional work that needs to be done here.

Regardless of these two little hiccups, the house is progressing well.  We cannot wait to see the rest of the project and move in and make it our forever home.
